Internship Check-In#2

1. Describe one physical skill you have learned at your internship site and explain how it might help you later in life.i learned the side hug from the training and program site.

it will help because sometimes kids run too fast to just say goodbye.

2. Describe one inter-personal skill you have learned at your internship site, either with students or your mentor, and explain how it might help you later in life.

i have learned that in stressful situations, like learning an instrument, having someone to talk to and help with any problems is invaluable.the kids taught me this.i could use this later if i ever teach anything to other people.

3. Describe one positive youth development skill you have learned at your internship site and provide an example of a time you used it.

i learned that practice and patience is the key to learning something new.when all the kids were having trouble when learning what to do, i went over their assignments one on one and helped until they got it.

1. Describe one physical skill you have learned at your internship site and explain how it might help you later in life.

A skill i have learned during my internship site is how to keep everyones attention while you are trying to show your lesson for the day. Its a great skill to learn because when you’re boring people will go off to wonder and not listen to the important information you have to share.

2. Describe one inter-personal skill you have learned at your internship site, either with students or your mentor, and explain how it might help you later in life.

A personal skill i learned is how to get some one to open up with you, without them feeling like you’re just trying to be in their personal business. This happened to me with two students that i got to meet and also with the mentor, i feel like i can talk to her about any problem.

3. Describe one positive youth development skill you have learned at your internship site and provide an example of a time you used it.

A positive youth development skill i learned and got to use is asking for respect in a way that doesn’t offend a student. I sometimes have a chance to run a lesson for the day at my internship and the students are not always listening or want to be apart of it so getting them to think is fun is one skill i get to use all the time.

1. Describe one physical skill you have learned at your internship site and explain how it might help you later in life.

A: One physical skill i learned at my internship site is how to how to make lip gloss. it might help me in my later life by having the knowledge to teach others how to make it.

2. Describe one inter-personal skill you have learned at your internship site, either with students or your mentor, and explain how it might help you later in life.

an inter-personal skill i learned is to talk louder so its not to one student but all. this was with the students. this may help me later in life because being that i am still in school there will be many presentations and this skill is useful for them. also being able to let things play out instead of trying to control it.

3. Describe one positive youth development skill you have learned at your internship site and provide an example of a time you used it.

one positive skill i learned at my internship site was to calm people so like make them realize the situation. i used this skill when in my internship we were making lip gloss and a student kept pushing around the other student to hurry up i stopped and to her that soon her time will come but for now she has to wait. the student understood and quieted down to wait her turn.

A: Internship Check-In #2

One physical skill that i had learned at my internship is to gather and construct groups in an orderly manner by using the “clap-method”. This skill helped me to be a leader to youth and to guide them.

An interpersonal skill i learned was to talk to people younger than me and still have an effective relationship regardless of the age difference. This helped me become an all around speaker to another age group

One positive youth development skill that i had learned was to not act like i was older and better than the kids but to still have them respect me as an adult at the young age i am. I use this skill every time i step into Esek Hopkins and soon every day in my future career :)

1. One physical skill I have learned during my internship is how to recognize and separate the infamous “cliques”.

2. One inter-personal skill i have learned during my internship is to understand that after being in school for six hours kids do not want to feel they are in class so be open to letting them run the show.

3. One positive youth development skill I have acquired through my internship is how to persuade kids towards a better choice without them feeling forced to do something. For example one of the youth at Delsesto DID NOT want to attend HUBzone one day. I told her if she attended the first fifteen minutes of the program i would really appreciate it and if she still felt like she did not want to be there she could leave after the first fifteen minutes. I was not surprised when she decided to stay the whole duration of the program.

A: Internship Check-In #1

The most memorable moment from my first week as an AZ intern was running my own lesson teaching the students how oil is found and how nonrenewable it is, how we find it ,what happens when a flaw happens on the job and how hard it is to clean when it leaks in the ocean and what it effects. Best part is going back at the end of the day and seeing that the kids took in what i showed them and it really stuck in their minds.

A: Internship Check-In #1

The most memorable moment from my first week would have to be Intro to Academics day, which was on Thursday April 26, 2012. I really felt like this day was the most memorable because it was really effective. Mrs. DeCecco (current American Literature Teacher) and Mr. Malardo (former English teach & current Debate Coach) were the two teachers I decided to bring in to speak to the students. I believe this meeting was very successful because i was really close to these two and was able to show the eighth graders the benefits of having healthy relationships with teachers. Another reason to why it was so memorable was because my teachers were very supportive. They brought in materials for the students, such as a pamphlet of the new graduation requirements, an action plan for high school freshmen and even a class picture of Gilbert Stuart in the 1950’s. The students loved my teachers and my teachers enjoyed their company as well. It was a great day to everyone because objectives were met, questions were asked and students seemed to be walking out with a clear mind of what to expect in high school. I felt like this meeting really got to the students and i hope it’s something they will remember when they enter their first day in high school. The only suggestion i have is that this day should be postponed till the second week only because i would have felt more confident if i knew the students more prior to them meeting my teachers.

what was the most memorable moment from your first week as an az intern? what made it memorable?

the most memorable moment was my second day as an intern. my mentor brought in a snake, i love snakes! also we helped the students plant seeds which they are going to record their plants growing progress. also i helped out a student who was having an off day and didn’t wanna participate. i took the student under my wing and got her to be more involved and changed her mood around. good day!

A: Final Training Academy Day

Which activity did you like the least during the Leadership Training Academy, and why?

The activity i liked the least was not working in groups. I am a shy person at times :). So working alone was not good for me. I really enjoyed working in groups. I also didn’t like taking a test.

Which activity did you like the most during the Leadership Training Academy, and why?

The activity i liked the most was the one where we worked in groups of three. It was the build your leadership activity i think. But either way it was very fun and i liked it a lot. Once again because i really like working in groups.

What aspect of the internship are you most excited about?

Just finally getting to work with the kids. Start doing what i was taught to do. =)
